| To renew an existing certificate, a new certificate has to be issued for the same domain (common name).
Process
- Purchase the same SSL certificate from the same certificate provider (e.g., Geotrust, VeriSign, or SBS). Once purchased, you can install the certificate yourself in cPanel, or open a support ticket to have us install it for you. You must be using the certificate on a hosting account with us, and your hosting account must have a dedicated IP. If you intend to use the certificate with another hosting provider, please contact them for assistance with installing it.
- In general, the certificate must be configured with the same information as the original certificate to be processed as a renewal. The certificate cannot be renewed earlier than 90 days prior to the expiration date.
- The certificate provider's support team will check the order information. Depending on the verification procedure, they may request additional documentation.
Renewal date and Expiration date When you renew your certificate, the new expiration date will be 12 months from the date of purchase, plus 1, 2 or 3 bonus months based on the table below. The bonus months allow you to install your certificate immediately without losing any time paid on the old certificate. Please see the example for further clarification.
| Renewal Time Frame |
Bonus Service |
| 46 - 90 days before expiration date |
3 months |
| 16 - 45 days before expiration date |
2 months |
| 15 days or less before expiration date |
1 month |
| Up to 15 days after expiration date |
1 month |
Example: Your certificate expires on June 1, 2011. You submit an order on May 1, 2011 for a one year certificate renewal. Since this is within 16 - 45 days before the expiration date, your new certificate will expire on August 1, 2012 (this is equal to June 1, 2012 + 2 bonus months).
