At about 3am (Central Time) our monitoring systems started reporting connectivity issues to the San Jose, Ca. Data Center. Their Network Operations Center was contacted for details of the outage, and according to the DC, it appears to have been related to some sort of unscheduled maintenance on the Cogent network which resulted in the route being dropped and picked up frequently. This caused intermittent packet loss, resulting in server unavailability.
The DC temporarily changed all rotes over solely to Global Crossing until the Cogent network was stable bringing the network back online around 3:20am, but with diminished capacity
. As of about 5:40am (Central Time) the SJ CA nework was fully operational again and our monitoring systems have not noticed any additional issues.
This outtage affected some of our VPS customers who have accounts in California, as well as server1 and server5 which are housed there.
We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
